We use this egg cooker to death. Well, it hasn't died yet (we killed another brand within about 3 months). This is SO much better than our last one. NO loud, obnoxious buzzer that wakes the entire house. Cooks eggs perfectly every time, turns off on its own. We never poke the hole in the end, and only rarely have an egg crack during cooking (we eat them anyway). This is the bomb. When the stainless steel plate gets gross looking, just put in a tiny bit of white vinegar, swish it around, and wipe it out with a paper towel. It will look new again. Much easier than my last cooker, which must have had a Teflon lining that burned out and looked horrible. Besides that, this one is cute and small and looks great on the counter. An appliance has to earn a place on our counter, as opposed to being hidden in a cabinet somewhere. It has to look good, take up little space, and be used often. This one has definitely earned it.

We use our egg cooker several times a week, and just this weekend, I made 21 deviled eggs, so used it three times in quick succession. Perfect every time. Very simple to use, excellent results. If it broke today, I'd buy another one, with no desire or need to check out other brands.

I love this thing! I was looking at a much more expensive version from a different manufacturer but opted for this one based on mediocre reviews of the other models. I was worried that the simplicity & affordability of this device would negatively impact the quality but so far (~6 weeks), that has not been the case. I got hooked on medium boiled eggs when I was living in Japan (you can buy them at almost every convenience store) and now that I have left, it is much harder to find them so I wanted to start making them myself. The cooker comes with a small cup for measuring water with lines on it for soft, medium, & hard. The cup also has a metal pointer on the bottom under a cap to pierce the egg shells so that they peel easy and don't explode when cooking. it also comes with a plastic bowl for poaching the egg but I haven't tried it because I prefer eggs poached in boiling water 10 to 1 compared to the steamed cup ones. The book is basic and gives you 3 guidelines for the different levels of firmness. I had to play with the amount of water and the time I leave them in for, a couple times but it was pretty easy to find a combination that provided the firmness I prefer. The only switch on the cooker is a start button that automatically shuts off when the water evaporates. I prefer to use a little less water and leave the eggs in a little longer after the machine shuts off, that has given me the softer eggs throughout that I prefer. Prior to buying this, I bought maybe 8 dozen eggs a year, in the last 6 weeks I have gone through 4 dozen eggs.

I chose this unit because I make hard boiled eggs regularly for snacks and salads, but also love poached eggs when I want a “real” breakfast. I have downgraded my review by one star for these two reasons: (1) it does not have a buzzer to let you know when cooking stops (that may not be so essential for hard boiled eggs where a little extra time in the cooker doesn’t do much, but it’s important for poached eggs where you want the eggs out and not still cooking as soon as they are done) and (2) there are no instructions for the poaching cup (aside from saying that the poaching cup has to sit on top of the hard-boiled egg tray). Have no fear, I provide detailed poaching instructions below, which I have learned through much trial and error.
First some corrections from other reviews. (1) One review says the power is on as long as plugged in. No, unless she has a faulty model, the unit is off when you plug it in, stays off until you push the on button, and turns itself off when the time is done and the light goes out. (2) Cord too short…well not if you have a standard relatively modern kitchen with a plug above your counter…although I suppose It is somewhat short at 27 inches long. (3) Poaching cup only cooks one egg. Well no, if I had read that review before I bought this, I probably wouldn’t have bought it. But I already bought it, so when poaching the first time, after putting one egg in, I noticed there was plenty of room, so I put in another. The poaching cup easily poaches two eggs at a time (possibly three), however, they come out like one big egg with two yokes. That’s no problem for me as they fit nicely on a pancake or piece of toast.
To poach two jumbo eggs, carefully dump the eggs (from the shells) into the cup, one at a time. Use the water measurement for half way between “soft” and medium. Yokes will still be runny with firm whites, but get it out as soon as it stops cooking (about five minutes—I set my kitchen timer). There is no buzzer to alert you when it finishes, but if the house is quiet and you listen carefully, you will hear a soft “click” as it shuts off (and the light goes out so you know). When cooking is finished, immediately take off the top and remove the poaching cup from the base. Take a rubber spatula to run all around the sides and slip it under the bottom, running it all the way around, to loosen the egg all along the bottom. Then use the spatula to slide the egg(s) onto previously prepared toast or a pancake. The eggs are perfectly done with firm whites and runny yokes.
By the way, while the eggs are cooking, I take a previously toasted, piece of regular toast, squeeze lemon over it, butter it, add hot sauce, then a large tomato slice and a slice of cheese. I put this under a preheated broiler about a minute before the egg will be finished. Remove this from the broiler when the cheese is somewhat melted and sprinkle with torn up bits of bacon. Then, assuming the egg(s) is done, plop the cooked egg on top of the prepared toast. Add salt and pepper and Yum! By the way, I put the bacon on top of the cheese (before adding the egg) because it helps the egg stay on. Previously I had the bacon under the cheese, but the cheese is slippery and the egg would slide off).
By the way, the instructions also do not say this; but I have learned from previous egg cookers I have used: When cooking hard cooked eggs, pierce the larger end of the egg with the needle (that is hiding in the water measuring device) and place this big side (with the hole) up in the plastic egg rack.
